Pioneer - Thomas Edison (1847 - 1931)
In 1887 he built a research laboratory in West Orange, New Jersey. This is where he created and perfected the motion picture camera, Kinetescope. Kinetoscope was a 50 ft film which lasted for 13 seconds. Kinetograph is the camera while Kinetoscope is the viewer, 35mm. He’s the first person to have projected his motion picture, which was screened on Koster & Bials’s Music Hall, New York City – April 23, 1986.
Kinetescope is a wooden cabinet with a peephole which has a magnifying lense on the top and if you looked through it, you will see moving images which is done by making the film roll quickly. It is also known as a peephole-viewer.

He was an Film maker and a kinetic Sculptor who was the first one to work with movements. He was multi talented in many areas such as, painting, writing poems and drawing along with the above. He is also known for his experimental films. His well known works include, Free Radicals(1958), A colour Box(1935) and Rainbow Dance(1936). He made a lot of short animations which was influenced a lot by Polynesian art as he lived in the South Pacific for quite sometime.
